Watchat App.

WHAT IS IT

In 2015, Verizon merged with Yahoo and AOL Media, which had been releasing internet-driven content with loyal followings. With this new partnership, Verizon expanded to the multimedia business and wanted to change the way people consume video content.

At that time, phone data were expensive and congested during popular timezone or in heavily populated areas. Being the most popular carrier with the highest network coverage, Verizon wanted to change the game by releasing mobile-only small-bite video content with specially designated phone plans. The app was called “Go90” and we the Verizon R&D were assigned to plan B, a highly social and interactive watching and chatting app.

With the WatChat app, we want users to always immerse in the video-watching experience. Users can one-click snip clip and share a video clip with their friends and family. They can post the customized short clip on social media, or they can edit the clip further. Users can also embed any video in their chat with friends. Simotenously switching the video contents between the main screen and the videos in chat.
